"Will my insurance cover this?" is a question I hear more and more often.

My answer—consistent since the first time I was asked—has always been, "I don't know."

But shouldn't I know, as a physician? Would a Best Buy salesperson ever say "I don't know" if I asked how much a TV costs? Never!

So why should it be different for physicians—the ones actually prescribing healthcare goods and services?
